The birthplace of “The Enlighten of Asia” Lord Buddha situated 250 km to the south west of Kathmandu. Lord Buddha was born in the garden of Nepal’s Lumbini in 623 BC. In the past Lumbini had attained great civilization and prosperity and there are many evidences of visits by Kings to this pious place. One such visitor was Indian emperor Ashoka in 249 BC during his visit he erected a grand monolith with an inscription to his visit to this sacred place. Several other places near Lumbini are linked with stories connected to Buddha and Buddhism. Lumbini has many new monasteries build under the aid of different nations. Lumbini is about 300 km to the south west of Kathmandu. Bus and flight to Bhairahawa which is 22 km from Lumbini are available from major cities.
